Blondie and covers have always been a good marriage. So is Hanging on the Telephone. The Nerves version came out a year too early to be able to hitch a ride on the punk success of the 70s. In 1978 Blondie scored a big hit with it. The band discovered the song through a cassette tape that Jeffrey Lee Pierce (Gun Club) had given the band.
