Barely 19 years Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote the song Houd Dog. The song was originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton on August 13,1952. Over the years Hound Dog has been recorded more than 250 times. The best-known version is the July 1956 recording by Elvis Presley. There are many covers and so called answer songs by different artists like Rufus Thomas (Bear Cat) and Roy Brown (Mr. Hound Dog's in Town). "Hound Dog" has been at the center of controversies and several lawsuits, including disputes over authorship, royalties, and copyright infringement since 1952.
